The aim of this website is twofold: to help you find the information you need about Finland, and to describe the work that we do in the Finnish Embassy in Hungary.
The connections between out two countries have always been close where our distant language relationship has given a special additional value, Now, our two countries are partners in the EU, and our relationship has especially become a partnership of common European values and challenges. This Embassy's objectives to ensure that the links between us are even more expanded and developed further.
Economic connections between Finland and Hungary have grown rapidly in the last decade after the restoration of democracy in Hungary. Finnish investment in Hungary now amounts over 1 billion euros and two-way trade over 800 million euros a year. There are some 170 Finnish companies active in Hungary and they employ around 20 000 people.
As Ambassador I have a privilege to work on a wide range of Embassy activities, from EU cooperation to trade promotion and to cultural and consular work. My work also gives me a privilege to have a nearly daily contact with Ministers and other policy makers, senior officials and also with NGO-members, with whom we hold regular discussions on bilateral and on EU issues which all bind us together.
My special desire is also to try to visit and talk to as broad a range of people as I can outside Budapest. I have made myself an extensive programme of visits to various parts of Hungary and during my tenure I will try to see as much as I can of the whole country and its wonders.
Regards the Embassy's contacts outside the capital I rely very strongly on the excellent links forged by our Finnish language teachers in various universities and on our friendship associations which we have 54 throughout the country and whose work is invaluable.
