The Embassy cannot provide direct financial assistance; it only operates as a mediator. For example, money transfer from Finland can be effected on weekdays through the branch offices of Western Union in Hungary.
In case of an illness, the Embassy provides information on medical service in Hungary and the contact data of local physicians and hospitals. There is a bilateral agreement in effect between Hungary and Finland on healthcare service for citizens staying temporarily - for a period up to one year - on each other's territory.
People with a European health insurance card staying in the countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and in Switzerland are entitled to receive any medically reasonable emergency healthcare service and to have their expenses refunded. Holders of the card may use the healthcare system - regulated by law - of the country concerned under identical conditions with the citizens of the state concerned. More information on the use of the card is available on the homepage of the Finnish Social Insurance Institute.
