In Hungary, applications for passport may be submitted only personally at the Embassy of Finland in Budapest. The addresse and the phone number can be found under the heading Contacts.
The consular department of the Embassy is open from 9.00 to 12.00 Monday to Friday. If necessary, arrangements can be made for consular affairs outside office hours by previous appointment.
If the passport is lost or stolen, the applicant must fill out investigation records at the Embassy and present the denunciation or report issued by the local police on the missing object.
Administrative costs must be paid in cash at the time of submitting the application for passport (see list of fees). One-year passports are ready in 1 to 2 days and five-year passports in about 3 to 4 weeks.
New passports can be taken over personally or by written authorisation at the Embassy.
Minors may only get a passport with their guardians' consent.
Finnish citizens born abroad must be first registered in the population registry office in Finland. Reports can be submitted at the Embassy as well. In this case, the Embassy forwards the birth certificate, the certificate of baptism, if any, and the completed form on'Finnish citizen born abroad' to the population registry office.
As soon as the child is registered and receives an identity number, the Finnish passport requested for the child can be issued.
Passports for persons of military age shall be valid until the applicant turns 28 years of age, unless the applicant provides evidence on the completion of compulsory military service. This can be done by presenting the soldier's book, certification of completion of civil service, or summons, providing evidence that the person is exempted from military service definitively or in peacetime.
