Hungarian-Finnish Society

The Hungarian-Finnish Society was founded in 1989 as a forum of cooperation for Finnish-Hungarian friends' circles and sister towns. For more information: President Enikõ Szíj (szij.eniko(at)gmail.com).

Kalevala Friendship Association

The logo of the friendship association symbolizes friendship and belonging together. Founded in 1984, the Kalevala Friendship Association is an association for friends of Finland in and around Budapest; it has 500 members. It organizes evening programmes on a monthly basis; the main subjects include Finland's history, present, and culture, Finnish lifestyles, nature and environment protection, and the Finnish language. The Association also organizes language courses in 4 groups of various levels; there is a language club every month. The Kalevala Choir and the Revontulet Chamber Choir present Finnish music. Association of Finnish People in Hungary

The Association consists of Finnish people living permanently or temporarily in Hungary. The Finnish school run by the Association is operated at the premises of the American International School of Budapest. For more information: President Outi Hassi (hassi(at)upcmail.hu).

Finnish people’s e-mail list

Those who are registered, will be notified of get-togethers, newcomers can get useful information on renting apartments, for instance, and other practical issues as well. For more information: Secretary of the Association Raimo Frondelius (unkarilista(at)gmail.com).

Music school for Finnish children

Children from 0 to 4 are welcome to the music school once a week. For more information: Reeta Makovecz-Laine (reeta.laine(at)t-online.hu).

The Polar Foundation

Polar-säätiöThe Polar Foundation was established in 1997 by two translators of literary works, dr. Éva Pap and Judit Kertész. The foundation is aimed to make popular and disseminate Finnish and Scandinavian literature and culture. These activities include publication of books, organisation of fine arts exhibitions, theatre and music events, lectures on literature, history, and ethnography, meetings for authors and readers, and literary translation seminars.

The establishers of the foundation, as experts and enthusiasts of Scandinavian and Finnish literature, intend to make available some valuable works for interested friends of literature in their series titled Polar Books.  Polar Books now available online at  The Polar Foundation website.
