Church

The Evangelical and the Orthodox Churches are minority churches in Hungary. At the 2001 census, 3% of Hungarians confessed themselves to be Evangelical, and 2,6% to be Orthodox.

However, the impact of the Evangelical Church in Hungarian society is larger than the percentage above as the Church maintains a number of nursery schools, primary and secondary schools, as well as charity institutions.

As a result of intense grant exchange schemes through decades, several Hungarian Evangelical priests speak Finnish well. Budapest-Kelenföld Evangelic Congregation organise church services in Finnish as well on grand church holidays (Christmas, Easter) information is provided on them by letters of invitation or in the calendar of events on the homepage of the Embassy.

Requested by the Finnish Evangelic Church, Máté Joób, priest of the Budapest-Kelenföld Evangelic Congregation, is also officially available for Finnish citizens residing in Hungary who are in need of assistance or intend to use some church services. In recent years, he was asked to baptize children and solemnize marriages, but he is also available for those requesting mental nursing.
